Fallfn landscape is stimulated in all facets – economic, politics, homes, fashion, and societal expectations and attitudes. I felt she had to grow up way to fast due to all the circumstances in her life and she seemed to lose out on so much. Except ordinary is hardly a word to describe them.
There’s Father Ash who is outed as coveting Laura from afar when his journal, his private robucj, are shared with the town. Complicating Laura’s decision is her relationship with her own sister and brother-in-law, who bring additional moral questions into the story.
In this story, the self-discovery in both Millay and the seamstress Laura are important and redemptive, and this is where a novel such as Fallen Beauty rbuck its mark on our world. It seems impossible for any friendship between them but there seems to be recognition by both of them about the other.
Based efika historical facts of Millay’s life, the decade and the way life was at the time, the story is one that pull at your heart strings for multiple reasons. Excellent story with numerous themes explored leaving the peruser plucking one or more they find fitting. The book club meeting was enlivened by a call-in from the author, and we got to talk and ask questions for about 15 minutes; pretty cool. Millay was in love with love more than she was with the people who received her brand of love, and she used those heightened emotions to inspire her poetry.

Her and the other main character, Laura-a single seamstress with a child- are both relatable in their efika ways to the reader. This was a great book. Through love and letdown, inspiration and hardship, and sisterhood and rivalry, both Laura and Vincie come to know the blazing beauty that sometimes sparks from even the greatest of mistakes.
